Man charged with multiple offences in 2023 shooting

Surrey RCMP is updating the public that a man has been charged following an investigation into a shooting that occurred in January 2023.

On January 7, 2023, at approximately 5:30 pm, Surrey RCMP received a report of gunshots fired in the 6000-block of 170 Street, Surrey. The Surrey RCMP General Investigation Unit assumed conduct of the investigation and investigators determined an attempted robbery had allegedly occurred resulting in one person being assaulted and a single gunshot being discharged into the air.

Through investigative steps, investigators learned this was a targeted incident and the parties were known to each other.

BC Prosecution Service has approved seven charges against a 21-year-old man. Sijoula Obatusa has been remanded into custody on the following charges:
